From skilled trades to high-tech in the FHM Master's program in International Management
An educational and eventful summer trimester is now coming to an end for students in the Master's program in International Management.
In the module “Practitioners' Colloquium and Company Visits”, the groups MA-IM-27 and MA-IM-29 with Prof. Dr. Heike Bähre visited companies, organizations, parliaments and experts in the European metropolises of Berlin, Hamburg and Prague over the last three months.
During the spring term, they had already taken advantage of the ITB Berlin, the world's leading travel trade show, to gather information about excursion destinations in Europe. Klühspies Reisen GmbH & Co. KG was awarded the contract for the excursion to Hamburg. Alpetour took them to Prague. The students from China were already getting involved in the study location of Berlin itself, discussing current developments in global marketing, Germany as a business location and economic relations between Germany and China between the German parliament and the Red City Hall and on the event mile for the European Football Championship.
The Fachhochschule des Mittelstands (FHM) focuses on teaching management skills across a broad spectrum of trades, family-run companies and technology leaders such as the European aviation company Airbus. Europe's oldest private brewery, “U Fleků”, showcased the craft of brewing beer and the company's many transformations in the face of political change. Vit Janda, an expert in German studies and IT, spoke about the market expansion of the family-run trading company Globus from St. Wendel in Saarland to the Czech Republic. The visit to the Prague government district with a guided tour by Ms. Dostalova from the Czech Parliament Institute concluded the Prague program. As in the previous year, the focus was on Hamburg as a logistics and trade metropolis with a tour of the port. Project manager Inga Gurries, who is also Head of Market Development Asia at Hafen Hamburg Marketing e.V., inspired the students during the harbor tour and the expert discussion in Chinese, German and English. Special thanks go to the International Office of the FHM, in the person of Ms. Ekaterini Papathanassiou M.A., who was not only responsible for organizing the tour of Germany's largest Airbus site in Hamburg, but also did an outstanding job of coordinating all the arrangements with the tour operators and taking care of the students during the excursions on site.
